Artist's motivation:

The "Animal Compassion" series was originally developed to raise funds for homeless animals in the Tampa Bay Area. Hurricane Katrina changed that focus for now. I live and work at my studio in an area of Tampa just outside of the city on a rural country road. For years our neighborhood has been a dumping ground for unwanted pets. We always know when someone has done the unthinkable as the animal dumped will often sit in the same area on the side of the road for days waiting for their owners to return. It is beyond heartbreaking. My wife and I have done as much as possible helping these poor lost souls. Over the past 16 years we have added 8 dogs and 2 cats to our family and successfully found homes for 7 additional dogs and 3 cats. (We kept the problem children). Our neighbors have also done their part as many of them have 3 or 4 dogs & cats saved from the dangerous road. Sadly, for as many as we have rescued 3 times as many were either hit by cars or collected by animal control.

Now that our house is beyond full, we are working with local rescue groups in Tampa. Using my art for fund raising helps them and they are usually there for us when a stray dog or cat appears.

KATRINA RELIEF
Seeing the day after day of devastation in New Orleans (Louisiana), & Mississippi has hardened our hearts. The death and sadness is just far too overwhelming. Emotions sometimes get the best of us, especially when we see news footage of animals trapped and huddled together, starving and terrified. I know they are just one of thousands still alive whose world is turned upside down and completely destroyed. I plead with anyone who loves animals to donate money or volunteer if you are in the area. If you are looking for a pet to add to your family, PLEASE!!!, check with the New Orleans, Mississippi & Alabama rescues. Many fantastic natured, kind, loving animals are now orphans and need your generosity and love. Also, check with your local animal shelters, they too are usually filled to capacity with sad hearts waiting to shower you with companionship, love, and affection.

ANOTHER GREAT RESCUE ORGANIZATION

TEDDY needs a home. He is an 11 month old male who was tied to a fence in the backyard of an abandoned house in our neighborhood. When we found him, his food bowl was full of maggots and he had no water. Teddy's chain was wrapped around a live electrical outlet and he was trapped out in direct sunlight with no shade. Teddy was so happy to see us as he is a very social dog. Lost Angels Animal Rescue is currently fostering Teddy and he is available on PetFinder .com.
